Annual Report of NHS Lanarkshire is published

NHS Lanarkshire has highlighted its achievements over the previous year in its Annual Report and Summary Accounts.

The report highlights some of the health board’s achievements during the previous financial year.

Neena Mahal, Interim chair for NHS Lanarkshire, said: “The past year has seen great improvements in healthcare in Lanarkshire.

“Throughout the report there are articles demonstrating our commitment to improving healthcare facilities and services. We have invested in providing new facilities and we have improved existing buildings to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. This includes the opening of Beckford Lodge in Hamilton and the Buchanan Centre and Glencairn facility in Coatbridge.”

The report gives details of how NHS Lanarkshire is performing against its key targets.

Neena said: “NHS Lanarkshire’s performance against HEAT targets has been very good. The majority of targets were achieved and a number were exceeded. This includes exceeding targets in alcohol brief interventions and cardiovascular checks. We have also increased our hand hygiene compliance to 95 per cent and reduced the level of C Difficile infections.

“We have also met our financial targets and invested over £1.7 million in new medical equipment including a new MRI scanner.”

A number of improvements in the quality and safety of patient care were highlighted at the annual review of NHS Lanarkshire held in July.

These, along with some of the action points for the health board to focus on, are included in the report.

The report features initiatives that have been put in place to improve the health of the people of Lanarkshire. These include classes for new grandparents, free vitamins for pregnant women and a song to improve the oral health of nursery pupils.

The report also highlights the achievements of our staff and awards that they have won, including successes at the Scottish Health Awards and GP of the Year.
