Tryst Lions enjoy Olympic visit

MEMBERS from Cumbernauld’s Tryst Lions Wrestling Club have been recalling their visit to London 2012, where they didn’t just watch the wrestling.

Steven, Susan and Lee McKeown headed to London with Mark and Lewis Waddell to watch wrestling the wrestling at the Games, which was held at the ExCel Centre, in Newham within east London.

The travel party arrived on the Thursday, 9th August, and attended two “amazing” sessions per day on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday and departed London on Monday the 13th August, according to the club’s website.

Whilst on their visit, the Tryst Lions Wrestling Club travel party stayed in Harrow on the Hill, in north-west London, alongside Susan's aunt and uncle, Lal Boland and Mike Boland.

Their visit culminated with tickets being acquired for the 9th August, with Ross Connelly and Lewis Waddell selected to represent Great Britain at a training camp in Manchester, between Sunday 5th August Tuesday 7th August.

Then, on the Tuesday night, a tournament was held with both the Lion’s Ross and Lewis claiming silver medals. After the competition, the squad were treated to the Women's Olympic Football Semi-Final at Old Trafford between the USA and Canada, with the US winning 4-3.

The club also enjoyed a sightseeing tour of London, and the Tryst Lions Wrestling Club member, Ross Connelly describing the club’s visit as ''…a great experience''.
