NORTH Lanarkshire Council is preparing for October’s Encounter Festival, where people can experience the culture of North Lanarkshire.

The brand new 'Encounters' cultural festival will build on the huge success of our previous 'Words' and 'The Works' events, by combining these aspects together, in addition to North Lanarkshire Council’s expanding programme, which so far includes the best in arts, music, storytelling and drama too.

'Encounters' will take place in venues throughout North Lanarkshire between 1st and 31st October 2012, although the full programme remains firmly under wraps at present, but what has already been confirmed is that the festival will include author sessions, with the likes of Iain Banks and David Hewson, schools events with award-winning writers Kjartan Poskitt and Allan Burnett and a whole host of family fun with our Libraries' Focus On Families Days.

The festival will also be a celebration of the works of Charles Dickens, with a North Lanarkshire-wide Big Read of 'Oliver Twist', and discussing the ongoing impact of the novel with some top-secret special guests.

What's more, there will also be family history events, film shows, live music and much more besides. Look out for further information soon, and discover how you too can 'Encounter' the best of literature, the visual arts, music and drama in North Lanarkshire this October.
