As Prime Minister David Cameron announced sweeping welfare reforms in Kent, all over the United Kingdom HMRC staff and Public and Commercial Services union members went on strike as they campaigned for jobs, pay and pensions.

PCS have confirmed that around 75% of their union members in HMRC up and down the UK went on strike, with the big hitters being Aberdeen 83%, Dundee 91%, Inverness 95% and East Kilbride 97%; North Wales offices 95%, Cardiff 93%, Carmarthen 85%, and Swansea 80%; Bootle 96%, Chesterfield 90%, Dover 76%, Portsmouth 75%, Stoke 90%, and not forgetting Cumbernauld, where only 3% of union members chose to cross the picket line and go to work.

Catching up with Cumbernauld and Kilsyth PCS Office Secretary John Miller at today’s strike, we were told that the union was on strike to “put money into the public purse.” The full story will be published on Cumbernauld Media tomorrow.
